Camden Highline: Access, Cost and Public Benefit

The Camden Highline is a proposed elevated walking route connecting Camden's neighbourhoods through a new piece of public infrastructure.

This research examined the proposal through comparison with the existing infrasturcture, Regent's Canal towpath and the successful precedent, New York High Line.

The report considered access, route design, cost, funding, maintenance, visitor capacity and neighbourhood effects. It also examined the assumptions behind the project's public benefit case, including questions of accessibility, environmental impact and long-term maintenance.

The research placed particular attention on a central tension in urban regeneration: how can a new public amenity create wider public benefit without simultaneously contributing to displacement and rising land values?

The project was undertaken as community research with Just Space and resulted in a 20-page comparative report.
